Working Group for Hypnotherapy – First Vote Results Now In
January 15, 2008
Following on from our earlier article in December, the results of the first vote from the Working Group for Hypnotherapy are now in.
Over 3200 hypnotherapists of the approximately 4300 registered members participated in the vote and the following decisions were taken:
Written contracts will not be recommended as best practice. This particular section split the vote and was won by a narrow majority of just 54%
Hypnotherapists will be required not to offer any advice contrary to conventional medical advisors. 70% of the vote was in favour of this
The use of special titles will be restricted. An overwhelming 93% agreed the title of Dr should be restricted and 83% for other titles. The other title recommendations accepted were:
Professor – this can only be used if the hypnotherapist holds a UK Professorial Chair and must be explained fully to the client
Reverend – this shall only be used if the hypnotherapist offers therapy in a religious context
Consultant Hypnotherapist – this title shall not be used
Full details of the vote, including the actual wording of the questions and the resulting vote, can be viewed online on the Working Group for Hypnotherapy’s website.
