What If I Can’t Visualise?

January 20, 2008

On one or two rare occasions, I see a client who struggles with the concept of visualisation and before we start, they tell me it’s probably not going to work because they’ve heard that it works through visualisation.

Firstly, everyone is capable of visualisation to one degree or another, although if you do find it difficult then there are different techniques available that hypnotherapists can use.

To test if you can visualise, try this exercise.  Close your eyes and try to describe to someone how your kitchen looks.  Or, close your eyes and tell someone how many windows there are in your house.

How well did you do?  I imagine you managed to complete the exercises to some degree.  If you found it very difficult, visualisation is not the only technique a hypnotherapist can use and you can still experience hypnosis.
