Using Hypnotherapy for Psoriasis
November 30, 2007
Psoriasis is a non-contagious skin condition where the natural cell renewal process is accelerated. Instead of a skin cell maturing over 28 days, psoriatic cells renew much more frequently, up to as much as every two days, and so the skin shedding is visible. It can appear at any age and shows as red, raised patches with silvery scales, most commonly on elbows or knees. Sufferers often feel isolated, depressed and can become withdrawn.
Few people may think to use Hypnotherapy as treatment but in many cases it has proved effective. The cause of psoriasis is not definitive but it is now recognised that it can be brought on by physical or emotional stress without the sufferer being aware of the cause. Even those who have suffered from birth can benefit from hypnosis. Hypnotherapy deals with the unconscious mind and can help the subconscious to reassess its patterns and ways of dealing with issues. If the subconscious mind controls the body then it is feasible that Hypnotherapy can, to a certain extent, help to deal with physical matters.
The Surrey Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy (SICH) gives details of a case of plaque psoriasis on their website. Case studies are often just verbatim reports from the hypnotherapist but thanks to one client, this particular case shows photographs of the client’s arms and legs before treatment, after 8 weeks of Hypnotherapy and also after one year. This client has suffered from plaque psoriasis for 22 years.
The difference is astounding and it’s amazing that Hypnotherapy can have such an impact on a person’s life.
