Top 10 Ways To Attract Clients For Pennies
January 12, 2008
When starting out, many hypnotherapists or other small businesses are on a tight budget. Here are our top ten ways to attract clients without spending a small fortune.
1. Press Release
As soon as you can, write a press release. It doesn’t have to be three volumes long, just a few hundred words is enough, but it could earn you thousands without spending a penny. Do not ignore this one. Get a friend to proof read it for you.
2. Give Free Talks/Sessions
In the press release, mention that you are available for free talks or sessions. Ring local groups and offer your services. Many groups are on the lookout for someone to give talks and hypnosis is always intriguing for many people. You could try local libraries, womens groups and more. Contact gyms or weight loss groups about giving hypnosis for weight loss, motivation or confidence. For slimming club organisers, make it clear Hypnotherapy works alongside a diet – it’s not a miracle alternative. Contact hospitals about using Hypnotherapy to help with pain management, IBS, quit smoking, etc. Contact colleges or universities about using hypnosis for stress management, helping cope with exams, the possibilities are endless.
3. Meet The Neighbours
Especially if you will be working from home, contact the neighbours, let them know what you’re doing. Most importantly, don’t ask if they themselves could use your services. This puts people on the spot and their natural reaction is to say no. Always ask if they know of anyone who could use your services. This gives them the chance to think and if they’re interested themselves, they’ll say ‘Yes, actually I might like to.’ Leave them some information, tell them about your offer (Point
4. Introduce Yourself To Businesses
Corporate business is worth a lot of money and can offer regular business. Start by introducing yourself to small businesses round the area, say within a couple of miles of your practice. Small businesses are usually sympathetic to other businesses; they usually understand what it’s like to build a business on a small budget. Ask if you can leave flyers on the counter. If you work from home, perhaps you could approach local beauty salons or hairdressers and offer either a referral bonus or you could work from their room on a commission basis.
Approach larger businesses and perhaps offer a corporate rate to their employees. Stress the benefits of a healthier, stress-free workforce.
5. Wear A Badge
Get a badge made showing your name and what you do. You could put either Hypnotherapist or you could use Quit Smoking Specialist. Wear the badge whilst you’re out shopping or anywhere in public and make sure you have some business cards or flyers handy, in your bag or in the car, ready for when people ask you about it – and they will. Your local printer should be able to make up a badge quite cheaply for you, or you can go to your local crafts or office shop and make up a simply clip badge
6. Local Events
Get a table at local events such as flea markets, mind and body exhibitions, business expos and display your leaflets. Make sure you smile! Give free 5 minute relaxation demos and take details of anyone who is interested. Follow up any leads with at least 3 contacts, start with an introductory letter or postcard, thanking them for dropping by your stand and inviting them to an initial session.
7. Use Your Car
Get a magnetic sign for your car. This one does cost a little, but worth it to get your name about. Your local printers should be able to provide stickers for both sides and the back for around £100. Stick to just two colours to keep the price down. Make the message concise so people can read the lettering easily. People will see the car as you drive about and see it outside your practice. Park where you can be seen. Also, it’s a one-off cost and you can use it to advertise forever
8. Run A Competition/Special Offer
Think of a competition or a special offer you could run. You could run a competition in an article in your local newspaper, offering free sessions as prizes, and it will only cost you your time. The competition will also get you free publicity.
Have a special offer on everything you put out – even if it’s as simple as visiting your website for a free report on ‘How To Minimise Stress In Ten Easy Steps’. Make sure that they have to leave their contact details to collect the report – then follow the contact up in the same way as your other contacts from your local events. You can set up a basic website set up for as little £30 or ask someone to do it for you
9. Put Up Flyers/Give Out Business Cards
Get flyers printed, use a bright colour so its noticeable and be sure to include an offer. Explain the truth about hypnosis, answer common questions, give ideas about what Hypnotherapy can be used for and explain about yourself and how they can contact you
Put up flyers wherever you see a notice board, in supermarkets, in the library, bookstores, gyms – everywhere. Have them all over your town and neighbouring towns.
Leave your business card with anyone you talk to
10. Referrals
When a client makes an appointment, always ask where they found your details so you know what’s working and what’s not. If something works, do it again and soon. If something doesn’t work and it’s costing you money, stop it. When a client leaves, always give them at least two business cards – one for them and one for a referral. If you get a referral, try sending a short ‘thank you’ note. They’ll appreciate it, you’ll be remembered and they’re more likely to send another
Most importantly, once the appointments start rolling in, don’t stop advertising. Always re-invest a percentage of your business to make sure it doesn’t dry up. Even if you’re booked up for weeks ahead, keep going!
