Our Conscious Mind Is A Teenager
January 23, 2008
Today I read an article in the China Daily, in which Patricia Whiteley talks about how hypnotherapy helped her with her Chinese lessons. After 6 months of struggling and being unable to pick up more than two or three words from a spoken sentence, she was developing a real phobia of Chinese lessons and suffering from insomnia as the problem was bothering her so much. After hypnosis sessions with hypnotherapist Barry Disch, and suddenly found she was able to concentrate and learn properly.
I found the way the problem was explained quite interesting. Patricia’s conscious mind was described as
like a teenager, high on energy and low on discipline
This explained why, during her lessons, her conscious mind would hijack her lessons because it wasn’t receiving instant gratification and so was giving up.
I guess this is the same in many areas of life. We allow our conscious minds to drive us and our unconscious or subconscious mind, the most powerful part of us, takes a backseat. We can achieve so much more when our conscious and unconscious are in line and working together but equilibrium can be difficult to achieve. Through hypnosis, it is possible for a hypnotherapist can communicate with our subconscious minds and help this to happen, as Whiteley discovered.
