National Occupational Standards for Hypnotherapy
December 9, 2007
In 2002, the National Occupational Standards for Hypnotherapy were published by Skills for Health, the Government’s Sector Skills Council for the UK health sector. The aim is to help deliver a professional and skilled hypnotherapy workforce.
Every now and then you might see that courses state something along the lines of ‘Based upon the new National Occupational Standards for Hypnotherapy’ or ‘This training meets and exceeds the standards set by the National Occupational Standards for Hypnotherapy’.
A list of the framework competences, including hypnotherapy, can be viewed online. At the time of writing, there were three completed frameworks for hypnotherapy, which cover assessing the needs of the client, treating the client and educating the client to adopt self-care procedures.
These frameworks can be used by anyone for role playing, appraisals and assessments, development and education. The Sector Skills Council do not appraise or approve any particular website or training company, so whether or not a course meets the criterion is up to the company to assess for itself.
