National No Smoking Day 2008
January 22, 2008
Yes, it’s that time again. In exactly seven weeks time, it will be National No Smoking Day where all the media and local health organisations jump up and down even more than usual in trying to persuade people to give up smoking.
Maybe you’ve been meaning to quit for ages but never got round to it, or maybe you’ve tried before and failed, whatever the reason now is a good time to re-think your strategy. What works for one person might not work for another.
No matter what people say to you, I’m sure that if the thought of lung cancer was going to make you give up, then you would have done it already. After all, we all know of the dangers of smoking so why are any of us still smoking?
No Smoking Day tries to give people another incentive to try and finally give up. Each year, more than a million people join in the quest to stop and every year, many of them manage it. There are opportunities to raise money for charity – maybe that will motivate you emotionally, or you could get together with a group of friends or co-workers, or even strangers, and quit together.
You can download sponsorship forms, posters and presentations from the website and there’s lots of information to help you. Of course, if all that fails you can always try using hypnotherapy. See our Quit Smoking section for more information on how hypnosis can help you to stop smoking.
