My Hypnotherapist Offers A Free Initial Consultation – Why?
December 26, 2007
Most hypnotherapists offer a free, initial consultation. This is generally so that the client and hypnotherapist have a chance to meet and discuss the issue or issues and so that the client can ask any questions he/she may have.
Many people distrust the idea of hypnosis, mainly because of stage hypnotism they have seen or heard of or ideas portrayed in the media, in films or television programmes.
An initial consultation gives the client the opportunity to see a hypnotherapist just for a chat with no obligation, allowing the client to meet them and realise that they are just a normal person. The client can then ask whatever questions they wish to and be sure that they are confortable with the therapist before proceeding to make an appointment.
Occasionally, if the client wants to and there is sufficient time, the hypnotherapist may give one or two hypnotic inductions so that the client can feel what hypnosis is like without any ‘work’ being done. This way, the client can realise that hypnosis is a relaxing, natural state and feels nice.
There are one or two issues where a hypnotherapist may not offer an initial consultation, such as smoking cessation or weight loss sessions. This is because these two issues can be very similar for most people and can be dealt with in just one, usually slightly longer than normal, session. More complicated cases can take two or three.
So if you are nervous about an initial consultation, then ask your hypnotherapist exactly what they’ll be covering in the session. More often than not, it will be up to the client what is covered, depending on how they feel about hypnosis and how many questions they may have.
