Missing Your Zzz’s? Try Hypnosis

December 29, 2007

If you’ve tried the sleeping pills, relaxing baths and counting sheep and if you’re sick of trying to hide the luggage set under your eyes and the groggy head, why not give hypnotherapy a try?

One of the main pre-requisites to sleep is expecting to fall asleep. Insomnia can become a vicious circle and hours of lying awake can become a real unwanted habit. Hypnotherapy is perfectly safe and can help break the circle of unrest. Contrary to some opinions, hypnosis is not sleep. In fact, when treating insomnia, many hypnotherapists will deliberately not choose to attempt a deep level of hypnosis.

Hypnotherapy can be combined with NLP as part of an insomnia treatment and many individuals notice a difference after the first session. Sometimes the reasons for a lack of sleep are obvious, such as stress. Hypnosis can help our unconscious learn to ‘switch’ the stress off to allow us to rest when needed. Less obvious reasons can be discovered during the hypnotherapy or it can just be a habit our unconscious has built up for some reason and hypnosis can help to re-train our unconscious to recognise when we need to sleep. The hypnotherapist may also ask you to make one or two small changes to your night time ritual.

Always check that your hypnotherapist is qualified and registered with one of the appropriate UK bodies.
