Hypnotise Those Migraines Away
December 16, 2007
Migraine is more than just a headache. The pain can last for hours or days and sufferers often experience sensitivity to light or sound, pulsing pain, vomiting, dizziness or impaired vision as well.
There is medication available, but many prefer to avoid it, particularly where children are concerned. Up to 28% of children below the age of 19 suffer from migraines.
The cause for migraine is unknown although stress is often a contributory factor.
Most sufferers try to keep a food diary to find a pattern to their migraines. They try hot or cold compresses, medication or simply lying in a darkened room, waiting for the pain to pass.
Hypnotherapy has been known to cure migraine completely, although there is little research on the subject. Some hypnotherapists like to work with their clients to find the trigger or triggers as is often the case, or they can work on pain-perception.
Many migraine sufferers learn self-hypnosis to relieve the pain during an attack. Some report fewer migraines and less severe symptoms when they do suffer.
The American Chronicle has a great article on relieving migraine with hypnosis and another one specifically for child sufferers.
