Hypnotherapy Increases IVF Success Rate
December 3, 2007
Researchers claim that Hypnotherapy doubles the success rate of IVF.
A study in Israel found that 28% of the eighty nine hypnotised women conceived, compared to 14% of the ninety six who didn’t receive hynosis treatment.
When the embryo is transferred to the womb, if the womb is contracting it can inhibit the chances of success. For many women, this period is the most stressful point of the treatment and he researchers were hoping that hypnosis would relax the women, thus increasing the chances of success.
However, experts say that the researches neglected to take into account several differences between the two groups. The women who didn’t receive hypnosis only had one cycle of IVF each, whereas some of the hypnotised subjects had more than one cycle.
In addition, the length of time that a couple has been trying to conceive can also make a difference. On average, the hypnotised group had been trying for 4.7 years whereas the non-hypnotised group had an average of 7.4 years.
