Hypnotherapist Criticises Hospital Conditions

January 29, 2008

Lynn Baxter, a clinical hypnotherapist, has criticised the way patients are treated at the Norwich & Norfolk Hospital.

Mrs Baxter, 61, is a former nurse and midwife and has produced a damning 26 page report, which she has sent to the N&N chief executive and chairman, the Department of Health, MP’s and the Healthcare Commission.

Within the report, she complains about nursing care, cleanliness, the high parking charges, mixed sex wards and male staff being left alone with female patients during examinations.  She says that mixed wards are unacceptable.  On one occasion, she walked in on a man having a wash and on another occasion, she was left alone with a male member of staff in the middle of an examination whilst she was in a state of undress.

Mrs Baxter had dislocated her elbow and splintered her bone in two separate incidents, hurting both arms.  She had to make several separate journeys to the hospital before doctors decided she needed an operation and then she had to wait eight days.  Twice the operation was postponed.  Mrs Baxter claims that managers are making decisions over clinicians to ensure their NHS targets are met.

Andrew Stronach, a spokesman for the hospital, confirmed they had received the hypnotherapist’s formal complaint.  He apologised for the level of service she had received but confirmed that the hospital fully complies with the Department of Health’s requirements.
