Hypnosis To Stop Snoring

February 2, 2008

Hypnosis SnoringMaybe you have a problem sleeping but maybe it isn’t because you’re suffering from insomnia caused by a sleeping problem, maybe someone else is preventing your sleep.  Does your partner’s snoring keep you awake?  Or can you hear snoring from another family member through the walls?

Although it might sound funny, snoring can be a real problem and not always just for the couple.  Sometimes it can affect the whole family.

It’s also not that amusing for the snorer.  Sometimes they can wake themselves up with their own snoring and even if they can sleep through it, the complaints can be embarrassing and get them down too.

Hypnosis can help with snoring in several ways:

The majority of people snore whilst they are lying on their back.  Using suggestions in hypnosis, the hypnotherapist can ask that when the unconscious realises that they are lying on their back, it can move them to lie on their side

Sometimes people snore after they’ve been drinking alcohol because alcohol causes the muscles around the throat to relax.  Cutting down on alcohol might help and if you need help to do this, ask your hypnotherapist to help you.

The more overweight you are, the more likely you are to snore because of the extra fat around your neck and chest.  As we discuss in our weight loss section, hypnosis can help you to lose weight

Smoking can cause mucus to build up so that as you breathe at night, the air rattles through the mucus.  Hypnosis can be used to help you to quit smoking and snoring could be part of your motivating factors

Although you might not think about it, even the snorer’s partner can benefit from a hypnosis session as the hypnotist can suggest that they can distract their attention from the snoring as they find it will fade into the background or can even help them to sleep.

Of course, snoring can also be caused by physical symptoms, so it is vital that you see your doctor.  It is especially important if someone tells you that whilst snoring you stop breathing every now and then or that you start snoring with a very loud snore.  This can mean that you have an ‘obstruction sleep apnoea’ and may be at a greater risk of heart attack or stroke.
