Who would have thought it? The cat lady in Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange was afraid of cats, right up until a few weeks before shooting.

Miriam Karlin agreed to do the 1971 film before she knew the part would involve being surrounded by cats – but she didn’t want to say no to Stanley Kubrick. So, she went to see a hypnotherapist and after three sessions of hypnosis, she felt completely cured of her cat phobia.
