In July, hypnotherapist Richard Reid is running a short, one day workshop on eating disorders, especially for counsellors, hypnotherapists and psychotherapists. This is a great opportunity to gain experience and knowledge in an area that covers quite a wide variety of issues such as anorexia, bulimia and other eating disorders.

The course will cover how individuals develop their relationship with food, diagnosis, building rapport specifically with people with eating disorders, assessment techniques, readiness for change, intervention and preventing relapse.

Richard Reid has worked in counselling and hypnotherapy for many years, in particular with the National Centre for Eating Disorders and he specialises in this area.

The course will run from 10am – 5pm at Birkbeck College in Central London, on Saturday 12th July. You can book online through the Contemporary College website. It’s competitively priced at £100 + VAT, which isn’t bad when you consider how difficult it can be to gain expertise in such a challenging yet rewarding area.

If you’ve ever fancied expanding your skills as a hypnotherapist, perhaps ‘cognitive behavioural therapy’ or ‘CBT’ may be something you should consider.

According to Wikipedia, CBT is:

A Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a psychotherapy based on modifying cognitions, assumptions, beliefs and behaviors, with the aim of influencing disturbed emotions. The general approach, developed out of behavior modification, Cognitive Therapy and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, has become widely used to treat various kinds of neurosis and psychopathology, including mood disorders and anxiety disorders

CBT is far more widely accepted, certainly within the NHS, than hypnotherapy seems to be.

Even better, the UK College of Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy Ltd is offering a special CBT Advanced Certificate and Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, aimed specifically at hypnotherapists who wish to branch out. There’s even a special 15% discount off for February, could be worth a look!

Perhaps you’re like me and even as a hypnotherapist, you’re amazed at the level to which some hypnotherapists have been able to take their skills. I mean, I can use hypnosis for pain control quite confidently, however, I would hesitate to have the confidence to walk into an operating theatre and try to use my skill there. How do you get to that level?

Positive Solution Training & Development are running a one day masterclass in Hypnoesitherapy on the 5th April this year in Sheffield. This class will concentrate on pain control and anaesthesia, using a unique method that is effective in 80% of cases.

This method was pioneered by a Spanish surgeon by the name of Dr Angel Escudero, who has performed over 1,000 procedures without anaesthetic and appeared on both BBC’s Your Life In Their Hands and Carol Vorderman’s Mysteries.

Hypnotherapist Steve Burgess will be running the course and has used this technique for many years at Hull Royal Infirmary, astonishing the surgeons there. He even used it when his partner had a hysterectomy. Steve runs the Natural Therapy Centre and has practised since 1992. He has appeared on GMTV, Yorkshire television, BBC Radio Humberside and in many publications.

Of course, surgery isn’t the only reason you might want to use this method. It can also be used for arthritis, strokes, depression and childbirth, amongst many others.

Autogenics is also taught as part of the masterclass. Autogenics is a relaxation method using affirmations and can be used as an induction and also for teaching the client how to relax themselves, such as for high blood pressure, asthma, anxiety and even with migraines.

The cost is just £120, including buffet lunch, scripts, support and training materials. If you book before 15th February, you’ll get an early booking discount of 15%, taking the cost to just £102. For more details, ring 01302 707 976.

British Hypnosis Research have announced their next student intake for their International Diploma in Indirect Hypnosis, Ericksonian Hypnotherapy and NLP will be 1st February 2008.

Students will have the opportunity to spend 9 days at a summer school with Stephen Brooks for some intense practical training and demonstrations. Students can attend either of the two summer schools, so they can choose between either London or California.

Although study is predominantly online, this isn’t a dry, theoretical course as the weekly lessons are interactive and include MP3 files, video demonstrations and discussions. The course lasts twelve months and a £300 deposit is needed to secure a place.
